Last year writer Ann Morgan set herself the challenge of reading a book from every one of the world’s 196 countries.
Now the writer is telling the story of the surprising discoveries she made along the way at the Ashcroft Arts Centre, Fareham, on Wednesday.
It wasn’t an easy challenge with only three percent of the books published in the UK each year being translations.
On her blog, Ann asked for help from readers about which books to choose. There were plenty of languages that have nothing translated into English and other countries where nothing was written down.
And what defines a nation’s literature? Works by an author who lives in the country or one who was born there?
