Pianist Refiye Mehmet will play Ravel’s concerto in G with the Solent Symphony Orchestra at Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral next week.
She gives the performance after winning the SSO Concerto Award at the 2010 Portsmouth Music Festival.
Refiye, British-born to Turkish parents, gained a first-class degree in music at Birmingham Conservatoire and is now a visiting music teacher for Hampshire Music service.
The SSO programme to be conducted by Steve Tanner includes the overture and dances from Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, and music from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
