If you’re going to Ruby Wax’s tour to see comedy, don’t.

Her Sane New World tour is a mix between a theatrical monologue and a science lecture.

Make no mistake, she knows what she’s talking about, but Ruby Wax’s tour should not be advertised in the comedy section of What’s On guides for theatres across the UK

With a recent Masters in Mindfulness and Cognitive-Based Therapy from Oxford University, I’m not disputing Wax’s credentials. Similarly, I respect a public persona for actively raising awareness about mental health.

In the first half, the ‘poster girl for mental illness’ shared facts and figures about the brain with her own cartoon sketches on a plasma screen backdrop.

However, the scientific facts, interspersed with the odd joke, were marred by her self-indulgent delivery. Wax invited the applause by bowing and saying thank you at points she deemed most worthy.

The second act featured questions and answers from the audience, most of whom seemed enthralled by the show’s content.

Make no mistake, she knows what she’s talking about, but Ruby Wax’s tour should not be advertised in the comedy section of What’s On guides for theatres across the UK.
