REVIEW: Beauty and The Beast at Ashcroft Arts Centre, Fareham

Have your say

As a big fan of A Christmas Carol, I was very excited to go and see Scrooge, currently showing at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton.

The legend that is Tommy Steele returned as the world-famous miser and he didn’t disappoint.

His singing was on top form, but he has great comedic talent too and portrayed Scrooge with passion, misery, humour and that slight vulnerable edge.

Backed up by a very talented company, the songs were belted out to an audience who laughed, clapped and got the odd fright or two.

I don’t mind admitting I jumped when the dominating Ghost of Christmas Past appeared.

The supporting actors and actresses were entertaining and showed off their amazing vocal range and dance skills. Steve Hansell as Bob Cratchit and Trevor Jary as Tom Jenkins in particular stood out.

If you’re looking to see a festive show before Christmas, I heartily recommend this warm and family-friendly musical.

Until Saturday.
