Have your say

From the first note to the last, the Lion King at the Mayflower, Southampton was an absolute pleasure – extremely powerful and completely mesmerising.

It tells the story of a lion cub’s journey through life as the son of the King of the Pridelands.

You begin to get a taste of Africa when the show starts as animals stream down the aisles and the cast bellow out Circle of Life.

All the biggest hits from the original film including I Just Can’t Wait To Be King, Hakuna Matata and Can You Feel The Love Tonight feature, as well as a few additional numbers.

The production also has a lively element of humour thanks to the characters of Zazu, Timon, Pumbaa and Rafiki, with plenty of references to the modern day.

Every part of this production is spectacular from the singing to the lighting, set design, orchestra and the incredible masks and costumes the actors use to portray the animals.

I would go as far as saying The Lion King is one of the best musical productions I have ever seen.

It doesn’t matter what age you are, you will love it. So whatever you do, don’t miss the chance to see this absolutely incredible show. I’m glad I didn’t.

Until September 6.
