Mamma mia, here we go again. Dust off the platform shoes and silk shirts because Abba are back with a new line-up.
On Friday, January 30, the Kings Theatre will be ringing with the hits of the group when they host Waterloo – The Best of Abba Tribute Show.
Produced and directed by James Baker, the show stars Michelle Sara as Agnetha, Lissie Link as Anni-Frid, Rob Arnall as Benny and Rob Miles as Björn.
Rob Miles was a session musician and function band member before one fateful performance 15 years ago put him on his current path.
He says: ‘I fell into it really – I got asked to perform at a corporate event for Barclays which was on top of a skyscraper, and when I arrived I was given a kimono and platform shoes and told it was an ABBA tribute.’
For this brand new show, costumes, choreography and a full live cast and band combine to celebrate the rise of the second-most successful band of all time.
The four performers were selected by production company Sweeney Entertainments as the closest lookalike and soundalikes, forming a tribute supergroup. ‘There are a handful of people in what we call the Abba world that are considered the best at what we do.
‘That is not an ego thing – we don’t just put on a wig and hope for the best,’ he jokes.
Waterloo – The Best of Abba Tribute Show is at the Kings Theatre in Southsea on Friday, January 30 at 7.30pm. Tickets: £19.50, call (023) 9282 8282.
