What’s the secret to leading a more creative, spontaneous life? According to Havant’s SOOP Theatre, the answer is simple: just say ‘Yes!’

The Spring’s resident theatre company SOOP have made a name for themselves with their hilarious improvised comedy show Instant Soop, which won The Guide Awards Best Comedy award in 2012 and was Runner-Up in 2013.

Now SOOP are giving people the chance to discover the secrets of improvisation by running a short course in the discipline at the company’s host venue, starting on February 27.

Participants will be able to attend six workshops to learn the basics of spontaneous performance in a friendly, fear-free environment.

SOOP’s creative director and originator of Instant Soop, Nathan Chapman, says: ‘Improvisation is not just for actors or comedians. The principles that form the backbone of successful improv can apply to so many areas of real life. What you learn in these workshops will increase your confidence, improve teamwork and leadership and encourage you to be more open to the opportunities that life presents you with. There will be lots of fun and laughter too.’

SOOP’s improv course runs from 7pm–9pm on alternate Thursdays. The full course costs £40, and individual sessions cost £10 each. Visit soop.org.uk.
