The drive-in cinemas coming to Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton in 2020

However they have not really become a part of life here in the UK.
But that is about to change with a couple of different drive-in cinemas coming to Hampshire – including in Portsmouth – and Sussex in the coming months.

Here are the ones to look out for – and how you can get tickets:
Portsmouth Film Society
The film society are holding drive-in screenings at Cascades Shopping Centre in Portsmouth this summer.
Cars can enter anytime between 8pm and 9pm, with all film screenings starting at 9.30pm.

Hide AdThis summer’s highlights include ET: The Extra Terrestrial (August 1), Mad Max: Fury Road (August 28) and Fight Club (September 5).
Events will be held on Fridays and Saturdays, conforming to social distancing regulations and coronavirus guidelines.
Tickets cost £20 per a car plus £2 booking fee and are only available online.
To purchase tickets, people can go to portsmouthfilmsociety.org.uk/drive-in-cinema.

Hide AdThis drive-in cinema will be coming to Southampton in September.
For the experience there will be a LED screen set up and cars will be parked two-metres apart, as per social distancing advise.
There will be a food-delivery app so that visitors can enjoy snacks and drinks with the movies, orders will be delivered by ‘roller-waiters’.
The drive-in cinema will also have other entertainment such as silent car discos, bingo and stand-up comedy.

- Grease (PG) – Thursday, September 24 – 6pm
- Back to the Future (PG) – Friday, September 25 – 6pm
- Toy Story (PG) – Saturday, September 26 – 2pm
- Joker (15+) – Saturday, September 26 – 6pm
- Lion King (PG) – Sunday, September 27 – 2pm
- A Star is Born (15) – Sunday, September 27 – 6pm
Tickets start at £38.50 per car and can be purchased here – but you have to be quick because they are selling fast.
The exact location of where the drive-in cinema will be in Southampton has yet to be confirmed.
Secret Cinema at Goodwood
The Goodwood Motor Circuit is set to be transformed into a drive-in cinema experience by Secret Cinema.

Hide AdOther films set to be shown include: Moana, The Incredibles, Cars, Mary Poppins Returns, Zootropolis, Toy Story, The Hunger Games, Knives Out, Moulin Rouge, Star Wars, Dirty Dancing, Reservoir Dogs, Pretty Woman, Fight Club and American Psycho.
Secret Cinema is an ‘immersive’ experience, with scenes from films recreated by performers during and before the screening. It has previously recreated Romeo + Juliet, Casino Royale and Stranger Things.
The drive-in experience will revolve around characters Frankie and Johnny Starlight, with visitors introduced to them online beforehand where they will provide tips on costume inspiration and car makeovers.
Each event will feature a 30-minute pre-screening performance, where Frankie and Johnny will co-host a live broadcast via portable JBL speakers inside each car, featuring music and games.
