University of Portsmouth to promote Black History Month
Throughout October the University of Portsmouth will be showing a selection of films as well as hosting a number of lectures by professor David Andress which will examine ‘why should Black History matter to everyone?’
Chris Chang, the university’s pro vice-chancellor Global Engagement and Education Partnerships and race equality charter champion, commented: ‘Black History Month is an important and timely reminder to encourage us all, as individuals, to take time to explore, challenge and broaden our understanding of history, to help us appreciate the impact of black history and the part it has played in shaping the world and country we live in today.

Professor Chang believes the events are at the heart of the university’s multicultural and inclusive ethos.
He added: ‘The university is committed as an organisation to tackling race inequality for both our students and staff.’
All events will be conducted in a Covid safe manner which follow government guidelines. Further details can be found on the university’s website.
