Brockhurst Medical Centre in Gosport closes immediately after CCG suspend its registration

About 5,800 patients will now be signed up with alternative practices after Brockhurst Medical Centre’s registration was suspended with immediate effect.
The decision, by the NHS Fareham and Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), came after an unannounced visit to the practice on Monday November 30. The surgery was put in special measures following an inspection in September.

Hide AdBrockhurst was due to close at the end of December, but because this has been moved forward the CCG will transfer thousands of patients to other surgeries today (Saturday, December 5).
Sara Tiller, the CCG’s Managing Director, said: ‘Our immediate priority is to ensure that every patient registered with Brockhurst Medical Centre has ongoing access to local GP services.
‘We are working closely with the practice, local primary care providers and the CQC to ensure that all registered patients can continue to have access to any medical care they need over the next few days.
‘Patients who need urgent care can still call the practice number and we will direct them to the correct place for ongoing care.’

Hide AdThe CCG said patient records, including prescription information, will be transferred to their new practices and patients will receive a letter about the change over the next few days.
Ms Tiller added: ‘We recognise that this is a difficult time for patients, and also staff at the practice. But we would ask patients for their continued co-operation at this extremely busy time to allow for their registration to be transferred via this process.
‘We are really grateful that they responded so promptly to our previous letter, asking about their preferences for their new practice, as this has enabled us to be in a position where we can now implement the transfer this weekend.’
The surgery got a ‘Requires Improvement’ rating from the Care Quality Commission in February last year.

Hide AdInspectors said staff treated patients with ‘kindness, respect and compassion’ but the practice was ‘unable to provide evidence that the required training had been completed by staff.’
