Hampshire care homes record fewer Covid deaths for third week

There were 32 more Covid deaths recorded in the county, showing weekly figures are continuing to decline.
According to the latest data from the Care Quality Commission, between February 13 and 19 there were 29 Covid deaths in care homes in the Hampshire County Council area, with one in Portsmouth and two in Southampton.

Hide AdThis is a drop from the previous week when there were 47 across the whole county and significantly fewer than in prior weeks, including the week of January 23 when there were 117 - the highest figure since records began on April 10.
Nationally Covid-19 deaths in care homes have also decreased with 649 recorded between February 13 and 19 - down from 893 the week before. And between January 30 and February 5 there were 1,365.
Overall, Hampshire has been the second worst hit area in England with a total of 905 Covid deaths in care homes since April.
There have been a total of 93 coronavirus deaths in Portsmouth care homes, and 104 in Southampton.
In England the total now stands at 27,875.

Hide AdAs reported, all care homes in Portsmouth have now been offered their first dose of a Covid vaccine, with appointments booked for residents to have a second.
