Deputy town mayor detained by police over threats to kill at Portsmouth address to face no further action

Councillor Lauren Banville, deputy mayor of Andover Town Council, was arrested after a ‘disturbance’ at Gladys Avenue at around 11.30am on Wednesday along with a 61-year-old woman, also from Andover.
A Hampshire police spokesman confirmed both women would face no further action. He said: ‘I can confirm the 38-year old woman and 61-year old woman both arrested on suspicion of threats to kill outside an address in Gladys Road, Portsmouth were released without charge.’

Hide AdCllr Banville said ‘after a thorough investigation (police) found no evidence of any such behaviours’.
The councillor said she had been picking up her son after an arranged visit to see his dad.
The mum was elected as an independent representing the Harroway Ward in 2019.
She was previously a member of the Labour party, serving as vice chair of Andover and North West Hampshire Labour, before leaving the party in 2018 after defending EDL co-founder Tommy Robinson on social media after he was arrested for contempt of court.
