Portsmouth police investigating after man uses fake £50 note in Stamshaw pub

Police are looking into a number of fraudulent activities in pubs in Portsmouth including an incident at the Mother Shipton pub in Stamshaw where a man ordered two beers and paid using a Scottish £50, which was then found to be a forgery.
Businesses have also been warned to be aware of accepting high value notes.

Hide AdA police spokesman said: ‘Officers are investigating a number of fraudulent activities in local pubs in Portsmouth and we’re keen to speak with this man in connection with these incidents.
‘On one occasion, it was reported that the man entered the pub at 4.45pm on Thursday September 17, ordered two beers and paid using a Scottish £50. These notes have since been identified as forgeries.
‘The man was seen to be getting into a silver saloon, possibly a Vauxhall Astra, with a woman and driving away from the scene.
‘We are keen to alert local businesses in relation to these incidents and advise them to be careful when accepting high value notes.’
