Portsmouth-based Royal Navy frigate escorts Chinese warship along the south coast
Royal Navy frigate HMS Westminster, based in Portsmouth, monitored the progress of the destroyer Xian from the Dover Strait along the south coast.
The Xian was returning from Russia’s Navy Days event in St Petersburg.

Hide AdHMS Westminster’s commanding officer, Commander Will Paston, said: ‘The Royal Navy routinely monitors other country’s warships through territorial waters as part of our ongoing mission in support of the defence of the UK.
‘The Xian conducted herself in a safe and professional manner throughout.’
HMS Westminster has been attached to a NATO task group since March.
She is now preparing to sail up the Thames for a visit to London, renewing her ties with her affiliates in the city and taking part in a ‘freedom’ parade.
