Heroic fireman of the blitz who won praise across city
While serving in The Portsmouth National Fire Service during the Second World War, he was commended for his bravery time and again.
George Jnr, of London Road, Horndean, was going through his albums and scrapbooks and thought readers might be interested in his father’s exploits.
And there must be many still alive who remember him.

Hide AdGeorge Jnr’s package sent to me included several tributes from well-known businessmen in the city and one from the town clerk.
He also appeared to feature regularly in the columns of The Evening News.
They all pay tribute to George Snr’s bravery in diving into burning and collapsed buildings and remaining inside and talking to those trapped until they were rescued.
