Two engines attended the scene at a property in Trafalgar Place, in Fratton, at 10.30pm.
The fire had started on the hob of a cooker, which had been left unattended while the resident went to the shops, according to crew manager Richard Furse of Southsea Fire Station.

‘She had popped to the shops and what was on the hob had caught light.
‘There was a lot of damage to the hob and the extractor fan, and a fair bit of smoke damage.’
An ambulance crew treated the resident at the scene for minor burns to her hands and smoke inhalation, which she had incurred trying to put the fire out herself.
