Natural causes verdict on Southsea prisoner found dead at Winchester jail
Coroner Grahame Short recorded a verdict of death due to natural causes after hearing that Chris Garitty died at Winchester Prison in October last year.
Mr Garrity, of Waverley Road, Southsea, had two days earlier appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court where he was charged with one count of assault by beating and remanded into custody.

Hide AdThe inquest was told that prison officers found him on the floor of his cell and despite to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pathologist Dr Basil Purdue told Winchester Coroner’s Court that Mr Garrity had a history of heart problems and had recently undergone surgery.
