Free bike repair stations set up across Portsmouth
Nine new repair stations, each equipped with basic tools and a pump, have been installed across the city allowing cyclists, wheelchair and pram users to inflate tyres and make repairs.
Councillor Lynne Stagg, Portsmouth City Council’s transport boss, said: ‘These repair stations are a welcome addition to the measures we are taking to encourage people to build cycling and walking into their daily lives, both for commuting and recreation.

This will make a huge difference to people who need to access general bike, wheelchair or pram maintenance on the go or might be caught out in unavoidable situations, like a flat tyre or loose part.
‘We will keep talking to ward councillors in other areas to see if further locations can be identified in the future.’
Repair stands can be found in the following locations:
- Eastern Road cycle path (opposite Sword Sands Road)
- Fratton Bridge
- Hampshire Terrace (near Mercantile House)
- Broad Street (near The Point)
- Devonshire Square
- Albert Road (near Victoria Road South junction)
- Clarence Esplanade (near Clarence Pier)
- South Parade (opposite Kirkstall Road)
- Eastney Esplanade/Henderson Road (near Eastney Swimming baths)
Installation due to begin in the spring was delayed due to the coronavirus lockdown. The project has been funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
