Prince Charles' objective was to launch the trust in memory of Lord Mountbatten after his death in Ireland at the hands of the IRA. The trust was established to support United World Colleges and research aimed at assisting the disabled at home and abroad. He said nothing would have given Lord Mountbatten more pleasure than the knowledge that his death would produce something positive in healing the divisions of mankind.Â
