NOSTALGIA: Portsmouth Dockyard blast killed my uncle
This prompted Eddy Amey to get in touch telling me about his family who were affected by the incident which killed 29 dockyardmen. Eddy's uncle George was one of those who died.
He says: 'I well remember the day of the explosion. I was at Hillside School, Paulsgrove, and in the same class was my cousin Ronald.

Hide Ad'˜Mid-morning the headteacher came into the classroom, took my cousin outside and sent him home to hear the news that his father (my uncle George Amey, a dockyard electrician) had been killed at work in the Dockyard. He is buried in Wymering church cemetery.'
There must have been relatives of 28 others who were affected like Ronald. If you were can you let me know please.
'¢Thanks to those who spotted my error in last Monday's pages about the price of petrol. Of course, I should have said the figure on the sign at the Shell garage, Hilsea, was 40.5p a litre, not a gallon.
