From the goalkeeping department up to the strikers, there’s strength in depth in every position and it's a key reason why the Blues sit fourth in the table. But there’s always room for improvement, no matter if that’s Pompey, Liverpool or Barcelona. Here, sports writer Will Rooney selects one player from each third-tier club who would improve Kenny Jackett's squad...
1. Accrington - Jordan Clarke
A tricky winger who caused Pompey problems in their 4-1 loss at the Wham Stadium in December. Netted eight goals in 40 appearances this season for lowly Accy and is capable of playing in any of the attacking roles. Photo: Charlotte Tattersall
2. AFC Wimbledon - Will Nightingale
The defender has been with the Wombles all of his career since graduating through the club's academy. He was named their player of the season last term and been a big miss since undergoing hip surgery in October. Photo: Malcolm Mackenzie
3. Blackpool - Sullay Kaikai
Armand Gnanduillet is the one who’s grabbed the headlines for the Seasiders, but Kaikai is a raw talent with more miles left on the clock. Had injuries this term but registered six goals and five assists in 28 games. Photo: Paul Thompson
4. Bristol Rovers - Jonson Clarke-Harris
One of the most prolific strikers in the division. He hit the ground running when moving to the Memorial Stadium from Coventry in January 2019. In total, he’s bagged 27 goals in 49 games. Photo: Alex Burstow
