That’s according to the data being crunched by one football analysis website, who has produced a table of the season based upon expected goals.
Expected goals (or xG) is a metric which assigns a value to a chance based on a number of different factors to judge its quality.

Hide AdAnd website Experimental 3-6-1 have taken that information to produce a league table which fairly reflects how a team is performing.
In each of the league’s fixtures, both teams’ overall xG is compared, with three points given for a win and none for a loss in the traditional manner.
A draw is defined as two team’s whose xG score is within a third of each other.
The resulting table makes for fascinating viewing with Pompey leading the way in front of Sunderland on 62 points – as can be seen here - nine more than their current total.

Hide AdThat perhaps suggests the Blues should have made more of the chances they’ve created to date and likewise the Black Cats, who actually are fifth in League One.
Peterborough are third in the table, with this weekend’s opponents Fleetwood fourth and leaders Rotherham fifth.
Pompey’s form since October has seen them collect 40 points from a possible 57.
