School cake bake raises over £1,000 for Rowans Hospice
Children and staff at Portsdown Primary School have been baking cakes and took part in a non uniform day to raise over £1,000 for the Rowans Hospice.
Katherine Brennan, 7, said: ‘I brought in two boxes of cup cakes and sold them all. It’s important to help Rowans as people with really bad illnesses go there.’

Hide AdHarvey Heatley, 9, added: ‘My Aunty has cancer and so it’s important to help people. I made cookies to sell and also donated £20.’
The Rowans Hospice is a cause close the hearts of school staff. Teaching assistant, Yolande Osgood, recently lost her husband who spent his final few months at the hospice.
Yolanda said: ‘The Rowans provided such fantastic care for my husband and I really wanted to do something to show my support.’
Rowans fundraising officer, Alexis Trowbridge, commented: ‘If it wasn’t for efforts such as this we wouldn’t be able to provide the service we do.’ Staff also took part in Pretty Muddy to raise almost £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
