We Can Do It Awards: Lollipop lady who has 'always got a smile' is recognised for her efforts to keep schoolchildren safe
For more than 25 years, the cheerful face of crossing patrol officer Bridget Bathe has cheered up children and parents heading to and from Leesland C of E Infant School.
Winning the Service With A Smile category of The News’ We Can Do It Awards, Bridget’s hard work and enthusiasm are definitely worth celebrating.

Hide AdThe lollipop lady was given special treatment on her 25th anniversary of starting her job, as staff from the school treated her to flowers, chocolates and wine.
Bridget, who joked about wanting to spend another 25 years in the job, said: ‘I have always got a smile, especially where the children are concerned. I retire in five years but I hope I can go on for a long while yet.
‘I don’t think about the money, it’s good for the community and gets children across the road safely and that’s all that matters.
‘I’m never rude and I have always got a smile on my face every morning. It’s the way I am, you will never change me.’

Hide AdAfter changing career from being a nurse to take on the job in 1995 when her children were young, Bridget has loved every minute.
On winning the Service With A Smile Award, Bridget said: ‘I’m really pleased, I’m quite chuffed. That’s really made my year, I’m happy as Larry.
‘It’s a shame we can’t get more lollipop people involved, because it’s a lovely job and I love it.’
