Rock schools coming together for Hayling Island charity gig

Young, teenage and adult rockers, from the Havant, Waterlooville, Portsmouth and Petersfield rock schools, will play at Eastoke Corner seafront, in aid of The Samaritans.

The music kicks off at 12.30pm and is open to the public. The event is sponsored by Playing On The Plaza, Havant Borough Council and Nevada Music.

Ready To Rock School’s Mark Thompson-Smith said: ‘The past two charity gigs have been amazing, both musically and particularly weather-wise, so the Hayling weather gods have certainly been kind to us.

‘Last year’s gig attracted a crowd of over 250 people, with most of them 
spending the whole afternoon at 
the Plaza, being entertained by our students.

‘I know I’m biased but it really is a top day out, a must for all music fans on the island and will really help such a valued charity.’

Former Hayling Island resident Mark and his tutor team have been teaching youngsters in the area how to sing, play guitar, bass and drums for nine years.

He added: ‘Having our youngest band, Lucky 13, then average age 13, play at Victorious Festival 2014, to a crowd of nearly 200 cheering spectators, was so inspiring and just shows what our students can achieve.’
