‘A GREAT way to prepare for the FA Cup final’ is how Portsmouth Beer Festival has been described by one happy punter.

The two-day event at Portsmouth Guildhall sold out, with around 3,500 people attending, and approximately 17,000 pints of beer sold.

More than 120 cask ales were on offer, as well as a keg beer, ciders and bottled beers.

Organiser Ben Miles said there is already a desire to hold the successful event again next year.

He said: ‘It has been fantastic. It is going so well. We used to come to the old beer festival which is not on any longer and we wanted to bring it back to the city.

‘We are so glad that people have come along. Everyone is enjoying themselves and the beers and are having a good time.

‘We want to do it again next year and make it an annual thing but we need to clear all the mess up first and then make a decision.

‘We are looking forward to doing a few more.’

Simon Jacks, 28, who lives in the city, was at the event with some friends.

He said: ‘The beer is nice. It’s a really good day out. I have not been to the festival before and it’s great.’

Friends Stu Chatwin and Jon Lunt, both 31 and from Fareham, were enjoying the beers before the FA Cup final started on Saturday.

Stu said: ‘It’s going really well. It’s the first time I have been and I really hope they do it again.’

Jon added: I drink ale quite a bit so I have been enjoying them. It’s a good thing to do before the FA Cup match.’

The organisers of the beer festival are also working on the plans for Victorious Festival, which will take place over the August bank holiday.

Among artists on this year’s lineup are Dizzee Rascal, Razorlight and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

As well as live music, there will also be a real ale festival showcasing the creations of local and national breweries.
