A new fish and chip shop themed escape room game has opened in Portsmouth

Other World Escapes on Commercial Road has just opened a new room at their Portsmouth escape room site.

The new room will be set in a fish and chip shop called the “Red Herring”, based in Portsmouth, with players completing puzzles to try and break their way out.

It joins the other two existing rooms - a Wetherspoons-style pub “The Lock Inn” and a cigar lounge “Vermillion”, both based in Portsmouth.

Teams of up to 17 can come together and figure their way out of the themed rooms, which are set up to look as realistic as possible - complete with a beer tap and fish fryer.

The idea is that the players are in the middle of Portsmouth city centre at normal places they’d usually visit but with a competitive twist.

The new room features a ‘big mouth billy bass’, who gives the players hints with the puzzles when they need them as well as theme-park-style motion and simulation, which is the first of its kind for escape rooms in Hampshire.

Although it has only been open a few days, the chip shop has already been well received by players, with some leaving five-star reviews.

It is the start of their expansion over the next few months with three new rooms also joining the existing three before the end of the year.

Divide will be the first, launching in September, which will have a twist on the normal escape rooms as it hopes to raise awareness for homelessness in the city - bridging the ‘divide’ between the fortunate and less fortunate.

Once this room opens, up to 23 people will be able to play against each other at once.

Launching in October will be Phobia, a horror themed room ready for Halloween and the final will be Christmas, which will launch in December to kick start the festive season.

In the future they are looking to launch a ‘night on the town’ package, where players can work their way through all of the rooms and enjoy drinks at the bar and fish and chips as they go round.
