Bremont, the official timing partner for the America’s Cup World Series, said the move would have probably been dismissed 12 months ago.

But Bremont co-founder Giles English says the frenzy around the America’s Cup and the rise of Portsmouth has prompted the company’s decision to move in from September.

Bremont will set up a mini shop within a larger premises occupied by jewellery retailer Ernest Jones.

Mr English, who set up Bremont with his brother Nick, said: ‘A year ago, we probably wouldn’t have contemplated it.

‘But because of all of this, it ties in very well.

‘Everyone has been talking about the cup and Portsmouth.

‘That can only be a good thing.’

Bremont hosted a drinks reception for supporters of the America’s Cup within the Portsmouth World Series Race Village arena near the grandstand on the day of practice racing in the Solent.

Talking about the benefits of the World Series for the region, Mr English said: ‘This is bringing more money and people to the area and that is really adding to Portsmouth and bringing economic benefits to a city that really needs it. It has showcased Portsmouth and Britain at its finest.

‘I went to the University of Southampton and I also came to Portsmouth all of those years ago, and coming back now, it’s unrecognisable.

‘It’s transformed so much.’
