Oliver Kutylowski, from the Brewhouse & Kitchen, in Guildhall Walk, went to an apprenticeship showcase, where companies from the pub, bar, brewing and casual dining sector met ministers to mark Apprenticeship Week last week.

The event attracted more 100 apprentices who showcased their skills including pouring the perfect pint, dough-stretching, speed-peeling spuds as well as telling their training stories.

Attendees were welcomed by Community and Pubs Minister Andrew Percy MP, who congratulated the employers for embracing apprenticeships.

He said: ‘Before I became an MP, I was a teacher and I saw the value of apprenticeships in my own area... well done to you for taking on apprenticeships in this vibrant industry.’

Mike Benner, managing director of the Small Independent Brewers’ Association, of which the Brewhouse & Kitchen is a member, said: ‘It is fantastic to see more brewers taking on apprentices to teach the next generation of independent craft brewers. This event showed the importance of apprenticeship schemes across the hospitality sector.’
