A Gosport mum’s winning recipe for a new sausage flavour has led to a new variety of bangers being sold in Asda stores across Britain.
Rebecca Parrett was one of hundreds of people who took part in an Asda Facebook competition last year, to suggest a flavour for a new limited-edition sausage.
The 30-year-old recipe for roast pork and crackling sausage balls made her one of 10 finalists who had their recipe ideas made for a tasting session in September last year.
A panel of judges then chose their three favourites from the finalists.
The top three were then put to the vote on Facebook and Rebecca’s entry was announced as the final winner during National Sausage Week.
Rebecca said: ‘I saw the competition on Asda’s Facebook page and thought it’d be fun, but I didn’t expect to win.
‘A traditional pork roast dinner often includes crispy crackling – I didn’t know if that flavour would be possible but thought I’d give it a go.
‘When I found out I’d won the competition I couldn’t believe it, knowing my sausages would be sold in Asda stores, including my local Gosport shop, was so exciting.’
As well as the honour of seeing her sausage balls on sale in Asda, Rebecca received a £250 prize from the supermarket chain.
‘My sausages tasted exactly as I expected with the added bonus of tasting like stuffing too,’ added Rebecca.
‘It’s like eating three parts of a pork roast dinner in one. You could taste the quality too as I generally like to buy sausages with a high meat content.
‘These were perfect and I will definitely be buying them again in store.’
Her winning sausage balls will be on sale in Asda stores throughout the country until the end of this month.
