A REPORT by economic research companies Oxford Economics and GeoEconomics has shown that BAE Systems contributes £3.3bn to the UK’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The south east accounts for 23 per cent of the company’s total workforce, with significant sites across Portsmouth, as well as Farnborough.

BAE Systems accounts for 40 per cent of all manufacturing employment in the Portsmouth area.

The report also showed that BAE Systems’ 42,360 employees were 85 per cent more productive than the national average, each contributing £78,175 to the UK’s economy in 2009, compared to a national average of £42,200.
