Barclays bank looks to close Stubbington branch

It is just one of two remaining banks in the area after Natwest closed its branch in February last year.

Business owners and residents would be left with a Lloyds Bank having to travel to either Fareham or Gosport high streets to use a Barclays.

Ward councillor at Fareham Borough Council Chris Wood said: ‘It is incredibly disappointing to see yet another bank moving its services further away from loyal customers.

‘Stubbington has many elderly residents who much prefer talking to people face to face rather than over the phone or online but unfortunately banks are interested in nothing other than profits these days.’

As previously reported in The News, other areas are being left with one or no bank branches following closures in the last two years.

Lee-on-the-Solent no longer has a bank after HSBC closed and Natwest closed its branches in Leigh Park and Portchester as well as Stubbington.

Emsworth has also been affected after going from having four banks to just one in little over a year. Barclays, Lloyds and Nationwide left the town centre, leaving only NatWest.
