GOSPORT’S MP wants businesses in the town to apply for government funding to train their employees.

Caroline Dinenage is urging businesses in Gosport to bid for a share of the newly-announced £150m in the second round of the Employee Ownership Pilot scheme.

Successful applicants will be given cash to deliver flexible training schemes for employees.

The pilot saw £2.9m spent on projects in the south east of the country, with total government spending now reaching £240m.

Schemes already funded include pre-employment training, apprenticeships in supply chains and programmes to help boost the amount of female apprentices.

Ms Dinenage said: ‘Investing in employee training is a smart move for any company that wants to grow and compete.

‘Businesses in Gosport have a hugely talented workforce – and I urge them to apply for this fund to help them offer their workforce the training they want.’
