The widespread sales at the end of November only arrived in our country in recent years but is now a firm fixture in the calendar.

What is Black Friday? 

Black Friday is the name given to the day after Thanksgiving in America.

It is the fourth Friday of November and it is the start of the Christmas shopping season in the US. 

The name has been used since 1952 - but did not become widely used until the 2000s. 

Retailers often offer sales on Black Friday to encourage shoppers to get out and shop.

When is Black Friday? 

It is always the day after Thanksgiving '“ which this year falls on Thursday, November 22. 

Meaning that Black Friday 2018 is on Friday, November 23.

However Amazon has already begun its massive Black Friday sales in the UK - they began on November 16, a week early. 

Which retailers are offering sales? 

Amazon are once again at the forefront of Black Friday sales - turning it into a week long event, with new deals starting every couple of hours. 

John Lewis, Argos, Very and Currys PC World are also taking part in Black Friday. 

While  Superdrug, Smyths Toys, AO.com, Carphone Warehouse and Halfords are also offering sales.
