THE first sponsor of the inaugural Southampton Boat Show 44 years ago has asked the managing director of the show’s current sponsor, PSP, to speak at a lunch during the event.

Southampton Chamber of Commerce, now part of the wider, county-wide Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, encouraged and sponsored the first boat show in September 1969.

Since then, the chamber has continued to be a supporter and every year hosts a business lunch on the opening day.

This year’s keynote speech is by Frank Dixie from the Segensworth boat transportation firm.

Mr Dixie will discuss how PSP has grown from its Fareham base to overcome a range of challenges and achieve global reach with a network of agents in countries around the world.

It takes place at the Grand Harbour Hotel on tomorrow, on boat show opening day.
