Boat show sees thousands flock to first weekend
WORLD launches, celebrity appearances, parachute displays and great live music made the first three days of the 48th Southampton Boat Show ones to remember.
The event started on Friday and was opened by Britain’s Olympic sailing team and actress Michelle Keegan.
The event saw thousands of people flock to it, and more than 1,500 visitors got out on the water for free with the show’s Try-A-Boat attraction.
Murray Ellis, managing director of British Marine Boat Shows, said: ‘What a fantastic start.
‘We’ve seen some terrific action over the past three days including welcoming celebrities and sailing legends alike amongst air and stage displays.
‘All that together with some great weather means we’re set for a fantastic few days ahead.’
The event, in Mayflower Park and Town Quay, Southampton, features one of Europe’s largest purpose-built marinas. The show, which is one of the largest in the marine industry in Europe and attracts hundreds of marine businesses, runs until September 25. On Saturday there will be family-friendly attractions including a Guinness World Record-breaking attempt.
British fighter aircraft including a Submarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane, will be providing visitors with air displays next weekend.
The show’s Ladies Day – sponsored by Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth – will also take place on Thursday. Go to southamptonboatshow.com for more.
