CONSTRUCTION workers are set to remove a pedestrian bridge this weekend as part of a £2million scheme.

The bridge over Western Way in Fareham will be taken out by a pair of cranes as work continues on improving the Quay Street roundabout junction.

Western Way will be closed from 6pm this evening to 5am Saturday, and 6pm Saturday to 5am Sunday. Traffic between the M27 should not be affected and a detour will be put in place through the town centre.

The removal was delayed from last weekend because of the poor weather. Site project manager Dave Merrills said: ‘We’ve decided to go for it this weekend.’

People are invited to watch from the southern end of the Market Quay car park.
