Portsmouth-London trains cancelled after ‘significant damage’ to railway

A BURGER van has been allowed to start trading – despite opposition from a nearby pub.

Southsea resident Eyup Can applied to Portsmouth City Council to set up a mobile food business on the site of the S&M Tyres Limited garage in Hilsea.

But concerns were raised at a meeting over the bid by the Coach & Horses, which is nearby, about the potential for anti-social behaviour and litter.

Landlady Eileen Stables said she also had worries about Mr Can’s desire to attract people after they had been out clubbing.

The council granted the move but included some conditions.

It said Mr Can must ensure his van faces London Road, so as not to come into competition with the pub, and have two bins on site for rubbish.

The bins have to be removed when the van is shut.

Mr Can told the council committee: ‘I promise I will run a good business.’
