A POST Office has been refurbished and had its counters changed as part of a national rolling programme of Post Office improvements.

The Post Office counters in the Southern Co-operative store in Yew Tree Drive, Whiteley, have been replaced by a terminal at the counter.

This means customers will be able to access the service seven days a week, from 7am until 10pm.

Chairman of Whiteley Town Council, Mike Evans, said the council would be keeping a close eye on any knock-on effects.

He said: ‘We will have to see what how it goes. It is a busy Post Office and if there is a dedicated till then hopefully it will not be too dissimilar.’

The new service will mean the service is accessible for an extra 59 hours a week and customers will still be able to use services such as bill payments, banking, benefits, travel money, postage, home shopping returns and collections.

Adrian Skinner, area manager for the Post Office, said: ‘We know how important Post Office services are to residents in Whiteley and we are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.’

Gary Trodd, Post Office services manager at The Southern Co-operative, said: ‘We are very supportive of the changes as it’s seen as a positive move forward for customers by making the Post Office’s services more conveniently available whenever our store is open.’
