BRITAIN’S biggest businesses have recognised the work carried out by Office for National Statistics in delivering the best census of recent times.

Members of the Demographics User Group (DUG), which includes companies such as John Lewis, Centrica, the Co-operative group and Barclays, chose the ONS in Titchfield, as the winner of the 2014 DUG Award for its work on the 2011 census.

Glen Watson, ONS director general, said: ‘I am very proud that some of the UK’s top businesses have recognised the excellent work that was carried out by our dedicated staff to deliver such a successful census.

‘We strive to provide trusted statistics that help policy makers, businesses and other organisations make well informed decisions.’
