Children get to have a sneak peek inside BAE

DOZENS of children from Portsmouth had a chance to see the inner workings of one of the world's biggest defence companies.

BAE Systems’ Portsmouth and Cowes sites opened its doors to 37 youngsters as part of the annual Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day.

The visit offered children between 14 and 16 the chance to find out more about their parents’ working day at the defence giant. The children had an opportunity to take part in engineering activities, demonstrations and site tours, and spent time with their parents observing their roles.

Richard Hamer, director of early careers at BAE Systems, said the day was a brilliant chance to show youngsters what the firm does.

‘BAE Systems is a company with great ambitions and a big part of that is ensuring we build a strong pipeline of future talent to continue the work we do,’ he said.

‘Engaging young people early around science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) subjects and future careers is a vital part of that process.’
