PORTSMOUTH’S Lord Mayor, deputy leader of the city council and business people from the city will fly to China on Sunday as part of a trade delegation.

It is part of a week-long trip to the cities of Zhuhai and Zhongshan, with Portsmouth City Council and Portsmouth Chinese Association at the forefront of the trip.

The trip is self-funded, with councillors paying for their flights and hotel accommodation, and aims to bring business and students to the city.

Among members of the delegation are Albert Choi, chairman of Portsmouth Chinese Association, Hazel Foster, Highbury College’s head of information, advice and guidance services, and Jack Busby, centre director of Gunwharf Quays.

Before the trip, Kathy Wadsworth, the council’s director of regeneration, said making direct contact in China is ‘very important’ for the city.
