BUSINESS people and community leaders will once again come together to discuss how to promote and improve the city of Portsmouth.

The Shaping the Future of Portsmouth event is to be held on June 7 at the Victory Lounge at Portsmouth Football Club.

It is a chance to see how the city’s promotion has moved on since the first SFP event in November last year.

Sam Menage, of The Partnership, which is running the SFP event, said: ‘From the event in November, many issues were raised by the delegates.

‘Since then we’ve picked up the most intensely-expressed of those views and worked on them.’

Those issues included creating a Portsmouth brand with which to promote the city, raising its profile and giving it a more positive image.

‘It’s not just about the football club, although that is great, it’s about giving the city its own identity,’ added Sam.

Delegates began to work in four work streams.

The first is the Business Leaders Group, which meets monthly to encourage collaboration between the private and public sectors to promote economic growth.

It is chaired by Walter Cha from Blake Lapthorn.

The second is the City Brand group, while the third group, the Development group, looks at regeneration plans.

The fourth group looks at the low aspirations of the city’s pupils and poor performance of state schools.

The next event, in June, is a chance for the groups to come together to update progress, as well as for business and community leaders who have not been involved before to come forward and take part. Anyone interested in attending should email sam.menage@ It costs £14.40 to attend.
