GREETINGS card giant Clinton Cards has collapsed into administration this afternoon.

Around 8,000 jobs with the chain, which also owns the Birthdays outlets, are now at risk.

Locally, it has outlets in Portsmouth, Fareham, Havant, Chichester and Petersfield.

The firm was placed into administration by its biggest supplier, American Greetings.

According to the Press Association, administrators at Zolfo Cooper said the group had made losses of £130 million since 2004 and it was ‘likely that a number of stores would need to be closed to make the business financially viable’.
