A coffee shop and a social entrepreneur company are teaming up to empower local entrepreneurs
Canvas Coffee at Portsmouth & Southsea railway station will host a special event on Wednesday, July 29, from 11am-5pm to bring together people who have an interest in social entrepreneurship.
Nemo Shaw, the local award manager from UnLtd, will be on hand to give advice and support at the Coffee, Cake and Create event – whether its for an established social enterprise or anyone curious to discover more.
He said: ‘We are trying to reach out and inspire more people from Portsmouth and the surrounding area to take the next steps of turning their positive ideas for their communities into real concrete solutions.’
Canvas Coffee shop is a social enterprise that also focuses on doing good.
Pravin Isram, one of the founder members, is a social entrepreneur who has combined his love for great coffee with his drive to support people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
Mr Isram received funding and support from UnLtd to help turn his vision into reality.
He and the team turned an empty unit into a vibrant and popular place for locals visitors.
They run barista training and offer volunteer shifts to help people build confidence and skills in a supportive and alcohol-free environment.
The team has grown to seven staff, with the shop open six days per week.
Pravin added: ‘Not only is it an opportunity to talk with an expert about your idea, but throughout the day the shop will be filled with like-minded people full of ideas.
‘We would not have got this far without UnLtd’s support.’
He added: ‘This is an opportunity for other budding social entrepreneurs in the city to take a step towards starting something.’
Coffee and cake will be free. To book your place visit eventbrite.co.uk/e/coffee-cake-and-create-portsmouth-tickets-17515191409.
