Community finds out more about plans to enhance Southsea's Queens Hotel

THE community has been given the chance to find out more about aspirations to improve one of Southsea's premier hotels.

Residents were invited to a planning day at St Jude’s Church to learn more about and discuss plans for Queens Hotel, in Clarence Parade.

Planners and architects JTP are acting on behalf of Manning Hotels Ltd to work with the public to develop a vision for the restoration and further development of the site and wider site.

The aim is to upgrade the hotel and increase the number of rooms available. New apartments could be built on the vacant adjacent site.

The hotel is also seeking to have a ‘better relationship’ with the common and wants to act as the ‘catalyst for regeneration’ in Southsea’s town centre.

Portsmouth Lib Dem group leader Councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson, who attended, said: ‘It was really interesting and great that the hotel wants to go out to consultation with the local residents.

‘The Queens Hotel and the space beside it is such an important part of the Southsea scene.’

It’s right on the common and people past it all the time.’
