Companies warned to be vigilant over emails

HAMPSHIRE businesses are being warned to be vigilant after an IT company reported a surge in scam emails.

Taylor Made Computer Solutions, based in Fareham, said it had seen an increase in emails pretending to be from delivery companies, but are weapons used by hackers.

Typically emails claim there has been an issue with the delivery of a parcel and urge users to click a link to view the details or rearrange another time to send the items.

When users click on the link they are either taken to a page where they are fooled into giving sensitive details or it immediately downloads malware on to their machine.

Nigel Taylor, from the company, said: ‘What’s worrying is just how convincing these emails can look.

‘They contain reference numbers, real addresses and the kind of detail you would expect from a genuine delivery company.

‘We are urging organisations to brief all of their staff on this scam to ensure they are extra vigilant.’
