VOLUNTEERS from the local branch of a national company abseiled down a tower.

Forty employees from insurer Zurich abseiled 327ft down the Spinnaker Tower to raise money for charity.

The abseil marked the 40th anniversary of the Zurich Community Trust – the charity arm of Zurich’s UK business which is based in Whiteley.

Pam Webb, head of Zurich Community Trust, said: “We wanted to find an innovative way to celebrate the trust’s 40th year and the abseil fitted the bill perfectly.

‘Many of the individuals taking part have never abseiled before so it’s incredibly brave of them to raise money in this way.

‘We’re very grateful to all 40 abseilers for braving the heights.’

The volunteers had to raise a minimum of £200 each and the total amount ha snot been totted up yet.
