A FAREHAM insurance company has launched school closures insurance to help parents faced with loss of earnings when snow causes school closures.

Towergate Insurance says its cover will also help to meet additional childcare costs.

It will cost £30 for each child for the year, and covers parents once the school has been closed for more than one day because of snow, flooding or boiler failure.

During the first week of December last year more than 19,000 schools were closed in England and Wales due to heavy snow, freezing temperatures and broken heating systems.

Stuart Grieb, managing director of Towergate, said: ‘There’s no doubt that unpredictable weather conditions are causing more and more schools to close.

‘We believe that many parents will welcome this new insurance facility.’
