A Portsmouth student has composed the music for a YouTube video for one of the city’s biggest business campuses.
Ben Jackson, 17, compiled the music for Lakeside North Harbour Business Campus’ landscaping video and has now set his sights on making a career of writing scores for TV series, films and video games.
Ben is about to finish his first year of a Level 3 Btec extended diploma in music tech at Portsmouth College.
Staff at the college spotted his talent early on and asked him to compose a score for the college’s new promotional video.
Karen Tyrrell, client and communications manager at Lakeside saw Ben’s work and asked him to compose and produce the music for its next video, which follows the activities of the landscaping team over winter and spring.
Ben said: ‘Collaborating with Lakeside North Harbour has given me fantastic experience and a great insight into what working as a freelance composer is like.
‘Not only do I want to compose music that enhances the moving image, but I also want to write music that people enjoy and that will inspire them to find other similar pieces of music, allowing them to maybe discover a genre or style of music they may never have found otherwise.’
Danielle Darby, marketing and communications manager at Portsmouth College, added: ‘Ben is an outstanding student with a truly professional approach to his work.
‘He’s a real testament to the talent of young people in our city and we are sure he has an exciting future ahead of him in the music industry.’
